Peace is declared… again…

I live in a country that has, for the 44th time, transferred the reins of power to a new individual… peacefully. For those USAmericans reading this, I hope I know how blessed and fortunate you are, as this is not the way it normally works in the world.

Let us al pray that our new leader makes wise decisions, and that his advisors give him wise counsel.

One thing that I have noticed is that Obama, whether you agree with his politics or not, seems to be really seriously trying to do the best thing for his country that he can. That really encourages me even when I’m not completely with him.

The most moving part of the inauguration for me was Rev. Lowrey’s benediction. I heard a number of other prayers given over that weekend – and this one appealed to me as being the one that was for Barak the man who was taking on a huge responsibility. Lowrey, of course, was a pillar of the civil rights movement, and his prayer invoked a whole host of hymns. It was the prayer of an African American preacher, and it managed to meet all the political needs of the day without feeling like it was a prayer designed to meet the political needs of the day.

Here’s a link to the text of it.
