Romans twelve, two

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

There’s a cause-and-effect relationship here. See it? It’s in three parts, so let’s just break it down.

1. Don’t copy (or stop copying) the way that the world, specifically the world that doesn’t know God and don’t seek him, lives. Do something different… what, you ask?

2. Allow God and his power to make you something totally new, not to rehabilitate what’s there, not to change or improve it, but to totally make it new. Okay, so it’s enough for God to ask us to do this, after all, he is God after all, but wait’ll you see the benefit.

3. You will know the good, pleasing and perfect will of God concerning you. You will know what God is thinking. Think back to yesterday and surrender. It’s all about surrender anyway. And that’s ultimately how to know God’s will for your life.

Want to know what God is thinking? Surrender yourself, body and soul, stop being like everybody else, let God do something amazing, and you’ll know. Simple, isn’t it!
