Romans twelve, four

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,

I know what you’re thinking. Will he start putting verses together now? I mean, this verse is, after all, only half a thought. Yes, but it’s a half a thought that is missed so often.

You can’t walk on your hands, at least not normally, for more than a few feet, right? You can’t actually breathe through your ears, can you? (Theoretically, there should be a way, since your ears and mouth are connected, but it doesn’t work that way.) And you can’t eat with your nose, at least not comfortably.

So why is it that so many of us try to do somebody else’s function so often? Why is it that we think that we can do something because we think it’s cool and fun, instead of because we were made for it. We don’t take the time to figure out what God made us for, and just barrel ahead with something else.

Why is it that there are so many people who try out for American Idol who can’t sing one note? They have a function… it’s just not singing…

God, help us find out what you made us for. And help us to do that…
